Winter in Bryce Canyon National Park

by | Apr 3, 2024 | Blog

Today was a disappointing day. In times like these, it’s hard to remain positive. The hatred being spewed, the disrespect, the lack of accountability on all levels ~ decent courtesy has left the building, folks & it’s wearing on me. Funny thing, I’m not even referring to politics. (I try to avoid those conversations.) We as humans have forgotten how to communicate. I ran off into the woods because the trees fill me up with a sensory overload: oxygen for my lungs, beauty for my eyes & scents for my nose — and a man grumbled at me as I walked past, complaining about too many people being on “his” trail. I’ve so wanted to see the red rock of Utah dusted with snow.

My photoshoot postponed. A client has disappeared along with yet another web designer. Found out my new website isn’t working on mobile devices (goodness knows for how long). People just now responding a week after my event has passed. I pissed off someone for asking them to not send me videos via text. And on it goes . . .
Not life-shattering, just draining frustration at it’s best.

When the level of despair is high, it’s time to go deep into the wilderness.

I’m so ready to get lost. Wild spaces, here I come.

My goal in Utah was to see the red rock under a blanket of snow. Warnings came that it was not meant to be. Alas, Bryce Canyon located at a higher altitude still had a little more than a dusting. I am a lover of snowy mountains so this colorful contrast was a thrill for me. Completely in awe of the geology & geography of the western United States, throwing white into the mix created a whole new landscape. Pinnacles, spires, arches, fins, plateaus, hoodoos or windows, it’s fascinating how wind & rain can create such unique beauty.

Inspiration Point seemed an appropriate place to capture the expanse of the canyon and it did not disappoint. When visiting, do stop at all the viewpoints throughout this park – Natural Bridge is enchanting.

Of the many parks in Utah, for me, Bryce is the grandest. Zion is magical and Capitol Reef the most diverse. San Rafael Swell is a spectacle to see as is Arches, but probably the most crowded. I tend toward the road less travelled.

Which one is your favorite?

If you have not been, I beg you, GO.

(I’ll be hiding amongst one of those pinnacles.)
