Just South of Pisang in the Himalayas, Nepal
Descending the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, my guide, Manbahdur & I happened upon a beautifully handcrafted home not far from the trail. There were three Nepali outside enjoying the sunshine so I asked permission to take a few snaps. Truly one of the most incredible experiences of my photographic journey was being able to show the elderly woman the photo I just took on the LCD screen of my camera. Her expression told me she had never seen an image of herself before. There is nothing more powerful to me as a photographer than that moment. Deep inside me there is a photojournalist begging to come to the surface. Struggling with invasion of privacy to the elation of a moment like this creates conflict that I have yet to sort through. Compounded with the disconnect of humanity happening today, the craving for more opportunities like this is coursing through my veins driving me forward to seek out what needs to be done so I can once again let my lens find such extraordinary beauty.
Faces hold remarkable histories that a photograph can merely draw one into, leaving you longing to know more.
